JUPITER, Fla. • Yadier Molina, recovering from a second surgery to repair ligament damage in his left thumb, took a significant step Monday morning when he donned the gear and handled his first bullpen session of the spring, catching veteran righthander Adam Wainwright.
“He picked the right guy,” said manager Mike Matheny, who said that decision actually was a group choice. “You want a guy who throws it where he wants to. That helps.”
Wainwright tossed lightly to Molina, asking Molina how it felt, before he ramped it up.
Molina’s progress this spring has been steady.
