BOCA RATON, Fla. • The Cardinals top prospect, pitcher Alex Reyes, was suspended Monday for 50 games after a positive test for a drug of abuse, Major League Baseball announced.
Reyes had been pitching in the Arizona Fall League.
In a statement, the young righthander acknowledges the use of marijuana.
"I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize for disappointing my family, fans, teammates, and the St. Louis Cardinals organization," Reyes wrote in a statement sent to The Post-Dispatch by his agent. "I acknowledge my inappropriate behavior and will accept the consequences. Baseball is my passion and I will do everything in my power to put this behind me and move forward.
