It’s tough to judge a book about the St. Louis Cardinals if you’re a fan.
So putting fandom aside, “Immortal Moments in Cardinals History” does a nice job of telling stories some Cards fans may not know.
Sure, we’ve heard that Enos Slaughter cried when he was traded away. But did you know that when the Dodgers and Cardinals got into a beanball battle during a game in 1943, police from the stands had to go on the field and break it up? Or that to build Busch Stadium Two, the city demolished flophouses, a strip club and the city’s small Chinatown?
