MILWAUKEE • The gift from his teammates was belated, long after Adam Wainwright had taken it upon himself to make his birthday wish come true.
Their veteran righthander had his best start in more than a month and his best stuff of the season, and three innings later the Cardinals reclaimed a lead with Randal Grichuk’s go-ahead single in the 10th inning. The winning rally, set up by Yadier Molina’s double, and Zach Duke’s limbo out of trouble gift-wrapped a 2-1 victory against Milwaukee on Tuesday.
“I guess age is just a number,” infielder Jedd Gyorko said, shrugging.
