The Cardinals have agreed to terms with their top draft pick, Puerto Rican high school shortstop Delvin Perez, and introducted him to the media Friday afternoon at Busch Stadium.
Perez, a 17-year-old from the International Baseball Academy, then took some ground balls at shortstop and batting practice. He's expected to fly to Florida on Friday to join the Cardinals rookie league club in the Gulf Coast League.
Perez had dropped from a potential top-five pick in last week’s draft to No. 23, likely based on the faced that he had tested positive for a performance enhancing drug.
