The Cardinals have signed righthanded reliever Chris Beck, who spent this past season with the Chicago White Sox and New York Mets.
Beck, 28, who had one save and a 4.50 earned run average with the two clubs, was signed to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training.
Beck spent parts of five seasons with the White Sox before joining the Mets and has a collective 4-4 mark with a 5.88 ERA. He has walked 75 and struck out 86 in 130 innings.
Elsewhere in the organization, former Cardinals draft pick Ben Johnson is reported to be in line to be the next manager at Class AAA champion Memphis, succeeding Stubby Clapp, who will be the Cardinals’ first-base coach.
