Greg Garcia found how tough the major leagues can be on Monday. The Cardinals infielder was optioned to Class AAA Memphis despite hitting .600 (six for 10) with a .733 on-base percentage and a 1.100 slugging average.
Infielder Ruben Tejada, signed when Jhonny Peralta underwent left thumb surgery in March, came off the disabled list after having three injury rehabilitation games at Class AA Springfield. Tejada had suffered a left quadriceps injury in the last game of spring training.
The Tejada-Garcia move basically was position for position — reserve infielder for reserve infielder — because, for now, rookie sensation Aledmys Diaz is the starter at shortstop.
