Cardinals score three in fifth but Phillies still lead 4-3

The Cardinals won a pair of challenges and scored three runs in the fifth inning to cut Philadelphia's lead to 4-3 at Busch Stadium on Wednesday night.

A ball hit by Ruben Tejada that was initially ruled foul became a leadoff double. And Philadelphia's appeal of a run scored by Eric Fryer failed.

However, the Cardinals didn't do enough damage in the inning to keep alive Mike Leake's hopes for his first win with the team. He was removed for a pinch-hitter after allowing four runs on four hits.

Tejada led off the fifth with a ball hit down the left field line.
