The outfield wall isn’t as deep and the turf isn’t as broiling or, obviously, as artificial, but looking out from the Busch Stadium dugout toward the position he played so well for so many years, Cardinals coach Willie McGee saw more similarities in center field than changes.
The route to remaining there feels the same.
“Shoot, our center field was 414 (feet), 385 to the gaps, but I don’t think it’s all that different, to be honest with you. You’ve still got to go catch the ball,” McGee said. “I think it’s just an athletic position. If you can play, you can play.
