JUPITER, Fla. — The duffle bag on the floor in the Cardinals clubhouse adorned with the World Baseball Classic logo as well as the green, white and red colors of Team Mexico wasn’t just a means of carrying equipment. It symbolized an experience that relief pitcher JoJo Romero found difficult to adequately describe.
Not only did Romero play with “MEXICO” inscribed across his chest for the first time in his baseball career, but the experience included the added element of having advanced further in the WBC tournament than any other in the country’s history.
That certainly wasn’t lost on Romero, a 26-year-old left-hander whose grandparents were born in Mexico.
