Cardinals reconsider and put Maness on the DL

LOS ANGELES • A day after announcing their intent to option reliever Seth Maness to Class AAA Memphis, the Cardinals reconsidered and placed him on the 15-day disabled list.

A release from the team stated that Maness met with a doctor after a conversation with Cardinals officials. During that examination he was diagnosed with inflammation in his right elbow.

When asked directly about his health on Friday, Maness said he was "alright."

The move means that Maness will remain on the major-league roster, and just shift over to the DL. He can go on a rehab assignment when cleared to pitch next, and in that way get the innings that he was seeking to rework his mechanics.
