Randal Grichuk's home run seemed to give the Cardinals momentum against the Cubs' bullpen, but that momentum was quickly extinguished.
Though the Cardinals got runners on first and second with two out, thanks to back-to-back walks from pinch hitter Greg Garcia and center fielder Dexter Fowler, they could not capitalize. Cubs catcher Willson Contreras picked off Fowler from first base to end the inning and leave the deficit at 3-1.
Contreras had already been a thorn in the Cardinals' side Friday night, as the young catcher hit two solo home runs off starter Mike Leake. Fowler had also nearly been picked off of second base by Contreras in the third inning.
