ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals have promoted from within to fill their open head athletic trainer position, announcing on Wednesday that they have given the job to Adam Olsen.
Olsen, 38, spent the past six seasons as an assistant athletic trainer/physical therapist for the Cardinals and has been a part of the club's medical staff for the past 10 seasons. In this role, left vacant by Greg Hauck last month, Olsen will oversee the Cards training staff's day-to-day operations.
In searching for Hauck's successor, general manager John Mozeliak said he considered external candidates before ultimately narrowing the list down to two internal options -- Olsen and Chris Conroy, also an assistant trainer for the big league club.
