Cardinals Piscotty out after being hit 3 times in 1 inning — the last in the head

Stephen Piscotty shook off the first two throws that bruised both of his elbows during Tuesday night's fifth inning. The third one left him crumpled at home plate, and sent him directly into concussion protocol after he was helped to his feet.

Cubs starter Jake Arrieta plunked Piscotty in the right elbow to put him on first base. Cubs catcher Willson Contreras' throw to second base — where Piscotty advanced on a wild pitch by Arrieta — caught him in the left elbow. And after Cubs second baseman Javier Baez misplayed a Kolten Wong grounder, Baez's errant throw to home plate drilled Piscotty in the ear flap of his helmet.
