A massive bandage was secured to the right side of Tommy Pham’s forehead and scalp and held in place by a tight cap — or do-rag — all of which necessitated a larger-than-usual helmet Thursday.
The helmet bobbed about when Pham ran the bases but otherwise had no ill effects on his performance. The same went for the gash in his head generated the night before when Pham’s own bat snapped off a resistance band in the team’s indoor batting cage while he was warming up to hit.
Pham collected four hits in the Cardinals 4-3 win less than 24 hours later and pushed his batting average to a National League-leading .
