JUPITER, Fla. • Officially out of innings for him at the big-league level as the rotation takes priority in the coming week, the Cardinals optioned lefty Marco Gonzales to Class AAA Memphis after his start Monday.
Gonzales pitched two innings and allowed two runs on two hits and three walks. The strike zone was squeezed on him a bit, leading to a lengthy second inning.
The lefty leaves camp with a 4.66 ERA and a favorable impression.
Gonzales will lead the Redbirds' rotation and be positioned there as the de facto sixth starter for the Cardinals.
