The Cardinals unleashed a barrage of bone-crunching body blows as part of the series-opening slugfest against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the offense didn’t pack nearly the same punch on Friday night as it had the night before.
The Dodgers’ pitching staff, led by right-hander Tony Gonsolin, held the Cardinals to just two hits and kept them the ball in the park all night. The Cardinals couldn’t duplicate the combustible offense of the previous night as they lost 5-0 to the Dodgers in the second game of a four-game series in front of an announced 44,744 at Busch Stadium on Friday night.
