Mark McGwire, who accomplished much in a little time here and Tim McCarver, who handled the pitching staff for three Cardinals World Series teams in a five-season span in the 1960s and then returned to play for the Cardinals in the next decade, too, were announced Friday as the fans’ online selections as new members of the Cardinals Hall of Fame.
Joining McGwire, who has the two highest home-run totals in Cardinals history at 70 and 65 in 1998-99, and McCarver, is the “Wild Horse of the Osage,” infielder-outfielder Pepper Martin, who epitomized the style of play displayed by the “Gas House Gang” Cardinals, who won the World Series in 1934.
