HOUSTON • One of the things rehabbing starter Lance Lynn wanted to do before the end of August was to test his arm and determine if pitching this September was a legitimate goal.
He got 27 pitches closer to his answer Monday.
Nine months removed from elbow reconstruction, Lynn quietly began a rehab assignment with a start for Class A Palm Beach. The righthander struck out two and allowed one hit in his 1 2/3 innings Monday. Lynn threw 19 strikes in his brief outing, and if he recovers well from the start will continue to make appearances with Cardinals’ minor-league affiliates.
