Ever since he committed his club-high 10th error of the season on Wednesday, much-critiqued Cardinals rookie shortstop Aledmys Diaz has played spotless defense. Most notable was his work on Saturday when he turned in one excellent play to his left behind the second-base bag and two more good ones when he charged balls and threw on the run.
“Every time I have three or four games in a row where I play good defense, I feel really good,” he said. “That gives me confidence to come out another day and do the same job.
“When we’ve got guys like (Mike) Leake and (Jaime) Garcia, you have to be ready.
