MILWAUKEE • The man who has played more games for the Cardinals at first base, 366, than any other player since the start of the 2012 season, has played nary an inning there this season.
With the move of Matt Carpenter from third base to first base, Matt Adams knew his time at first would be limited. “He’s a grinder,” said Adams. “He’s a guy who loves to be out there and doesn’t take many days off.”
So Adams took a flyer at being a left fielder late in spring training.
It went well in Florida but not quite so in the regular season in the bigger ball parks and Adams, who started four of the Cardinals’ first nine games in left field, hasn’t appeared there since.
