Second baseman Kolten Wong did some running and agility drills, took some grounders and hit before Monday’s Cardinals game with the Milwaukee Brewers. But still he did not start.
Manager Mike Shildt has been optimistic a couple of times before that the next day would be the day his elite defender would be ready to play. But now he is all but sure that day will be Tuesday, four days after Wong suffered injuries to both hamstrings in a game with San Francisco.
“He felt the best he’s felt,” said Shildt. “He’s available (Monday night) and if he checks every box, then he’ll be in there tomorrow.
