MILWAUKEE — Although the Cardinals announced the four starters they plan to deploy in the four-game visit from the defending champions this week, the rotation, perpetually revised due to injury this summer, remains somewhat ad hoc – and could add a rookie who pitched his way into immediate consideration.
In extended relief of starter Kwang Hyun Kim on Saturday, Jake Woodford got 16 outs from 16 batters through his 5 1/3 scoreless innings. He did not walk a batter.
He made a case to be in the mix as a fill-in starter.
“I can’t ignore it,” manager Mike Shildt said.
