Cardinals notebook: Reyes, MVP as solid closer, is on track for 85 innings

MILWAUKEE — As the Cardinals put together a run of 14 wins in 18 games to raise their record to the best in the National League, several players could be considered most valuable to the cause.

Nolan Arenado has brought power, defense and attitude. Tommy Edman has brought a spark at the top of the lineup and has played stellar defensively at two positions. Jack Flaherty has become that ace, running off six victories in succession before he pitches here on Thursday.

But perhaps Alex Reyes has been the most valuable. From not knowing exactly in spring training what the closer situation would look like, the Cardinals know now.
