Cardinals notebook: MLB honors Robinson’s legacy

Fowler said he “always” laments the low percentage. “It’s a great game,” he said. “You always hope there are organizations that would help more African-Americans go get into it. You’ve got to be active in the community. People say a lot of things but we don’t actually act on them. If it wasn’t for (Robinson), we wouldn’t be out here playing. I know there are a lot of African-Americans who look up to me and I look up to Jackie.”

“Even when I came into the game — rookie ball (Class) A ball, I had a couple of issues,” said McGee, who was in the New York Yankees’ system before he came to the Cardinals in 1982.
