CHICAGO • The Cardinals added some predictable intrigue to the National League division series Sunday by backing off the pronouncement that Lance Lynn would start Game 4.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny declined to affirm Lynn’s assignment when given the chance Sunday at Wrigley Field before the team’s workout. Matheny suggested that they would “just kind of wait on that right now” and stay open to multiple options.
The decision could rest on the outcome of Game 3.
If the Cardinals leave Monday night’s game with a lead in the series and have two chances to clinch, they could stick with Lynn.
