DENVER — Whatever tears the Cardinals' Nolan Arenado felt welling up as the ovation grew louder Thursday evaporated quickly at the sight of the heat from former teammate Antonio Senzatela.
The tears “were coming,” Arenado said Friday, talking with reporters on the field after batting practice. “And then 'Senza' beat me with 96 mph on my hands, and I wasn’t crying anymore.”
He paused and smiled.
“I almost started crying because I got out.”
The Friday night crowd at Coors Field greeted Arenado, a golden fixture at third base for eight years with the Rockies, with another ovation as he took his first at-bat.
