So Dakota Hudson won’t be starting one game of a doubleheader for the Cardinals on Friday at Chicago. He will be starting for Memphis again on Wednesday night.
“No comment on that one,” said Hudson, pleasantly but disappointedly after hoping that five rehabilitation starts, even after coming back from Tommy John elbow surgery last September, would be enough to return to the major leagues. He threw a bullpen session on Sunday morning but won’t be pitching for the Cardinals at least for another week.
But, consider this. Perhaps Jack Flaherty, one of the top pitchers in baseball before he suffered an oblique strain in late May, could be appearing on Friday, although not for starters’ innings but as part a bullpen game.
