Cardinals notebook: Getting better with the glove keeps Martinez in lineup

Martinez’s bat has put him in the everyday lineup — his average jumped to .364 Saturday with two hits, including a homer. But significant improvement with his glove has helped keep him in the lineup longer.

McGee provides cards with suggested alignments if the outfielders want to use them. Dexter Fowler carries one out to center field. If the outfielder prefers, McGee sees where their feel takes them and then repositions if necessary. That’s allowed Martinez to “sharpen my instincts, to get my instincts,” he said.
