In the fine print of the Cardinals’ 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh was the notation that Cardinals third baseman Tommy Edman had reached base successfully for the 21st consecutive game, dating to last season. With Kolten Wong scoring from second as Edman hustled his way to a single on a grounder to the first baseman Sunday, Edman had the only run batted in for the Cardinals.
He also made a diving stop at third base on Erik Gonzalez in the ninth inning. And, after manager Mike Shildt had said the other day that Edman would be a regular but not at a regular position, it appears strong that he is the regular third baseman.
