Although he’s two steps away from the majors, Cardinals catching prospect Andrew Knizner has had a pair of eyes in the majors on him all season, scrutinizing his every game.
As part of a new instruction method for the team and its upper-tier catchers, major-league bullpen catcher Jamie Pogue has kept track of Knizner and the other catchers at the top by way of video clips. Throughout this season he has offered reviews and tips on how they handle pitchers, block pitches and make throws, and he keeps in routine contact with them about their progress.
Pogue has access to edited clips specifically so he can see the work of catchers like Knizner and Carson Kelly and give them feedback.
