The Cardinals don’t have much of a need for starting pitching right now as their starters collectively have a 3.46 ERA, good for fifth in the National League. But pitching prospect Jack Flaherty may assure that the Cardinals are also set for the foreseeable future.
Beginning this year with his first stint at Double-A Springfield, Flaherty has been near flawless thus far. In three starts, Flaherty has allowed just one run over his first 21 1/3 innings — good for a 0.42 ERA — and has reached the seventh inning in each outing.
The Cardinals’ No. 4 prospect according to ESPN’s Keith Law heading into the 2017 season, Flaherty earned nothing but praise from Cardinals farm director Gary LaRocque for his performance.
