Fifteen games into the season, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has had as many different lineups. That’s not 15 different position-player batting orders from one game to the next. That’s 15 different groupings of players.
Matheny admits he is conflicted a bit. He likes continuity, yet he likes depth, too.
“I don’t like these guys feeling like ‘I’d better be good or I’m going to be yanked,’ but that’s really the kind of team we have right now,” said Matheny. “We’re going to keep throwing guys in there to keep them sharp. I believe there’s going to be a time this season when it’s obvious that these guys need to be in there on a consistent basis.
