The Cardinals’ clubhouse was a bizarre, crowded confluence of the seasons after Sunday’s 10-inning, 6-4 loss to Cincinnati at Busch Stadium.
The veterans were sporting football jerseys of their favorite pro players, past and present, as they prepared to fly to Washington. The rookies, of which there are many, were laboring to put on pants, pads and helmets, even eye black — the full hockey uniform — obtained from the Blues’ equipment room.
