JUPITER, Fla. • The Cardinals’ bullpen this year likely will be comprised of seven relievers at the start of the season but could have eight at any moment, if manager Mike Matheny and pitching coach Mike Maddux deem the concept worthy. In camp are 14 pitchers who worked out of the Cardinals’ bullpen last year and another, lefthander Sean Gilmartin, who was with the New York Mets briefly.
And, though president of baseball operations John Mozeliak had said awhile back that Luke Gregerson was the closer of the moment, Matheny isn’t about to name any one of them as his ninth-inning man.
