If you still had those records in your hand, they might suggest that if the final score Sunday would be 8-0, that Cardinals ace Carlos Martinez would be the victor over Cincinnati’s Scott Feldman, who has had his days but also has been with six major league teams and is 34 years old.
But Feldman, whom the Cardinals hadn’t seen since 2013 when they beat him as a member of the Chicago Cubs, looked like a hybrid of Don Gullett, Jose Rijo and Tom Seaver, making liberal use of his slider in blanking the Cardinals on four hits for six innings before getting three-inning bullpen help.
