PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. • Cardinals reliever Brett Cecil faced six hitters in the seventh inning Sunday. He retired none of them, giving up six runs, including a three-run homer by the New York Mets’ Luis Guillorme.
Normally, that would beat a team but little was normal in a wild, wind-aided offensive exhibition at First Data Field.
The Cardinals had 18 hits, with Jose Martinez hitting a three-run homer, Harrison Bader a three-run triple, Dexter Fowler a two-run double and Patrick Wisdom and Anthony Garcia clouting solo homers.
Cardinals starter Mike Leake easily was among the best pitchers in a 14-11 win, giving up three runs in four innings, as Cardinals remained unbeaten for their last five spring games (4-0-1) and raised their exhibition mark to 7-2.
