JUPITER, Fla. — Five Cardinals pitchers, led by veteran Adam Wainwright, who had two perfect innings, held the Miami Marlins to just two hits in a seven-inning exhibition on Tuesday.
But the Cardinals had only four hits, two after the first inning when Nolan Arenado singled for his first Cardinals exhibition hit after Paul Goldschmidt had singled with two out.
What did it all mean? Another tie game for the Cardinals, their second in succession, and this game was scoreless.
The Cardinals loaded the bases with nobody out in the final inning on a walk to backup catcher Tyler Heineman, who had thrown out two runners trying to steal, a single by Tyler O’Neill and a fielder’s choice.
