PHILADELPHIA • The Cardinals on Saturday night didn’t break the major-league mark for consecutive games with multiple home runs, falling one homer short and finishing with nine straight. But that game apparently was just an aberration as the Cardinals pounded out four more home runs on Sunday in a 9-0 lashing of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Not that righthander Mike Leake, who knocked in two of the runs the old-fashioned way with a two-run single, needed all this much largesse in a game that finished in steady rain.
Leake, who had given up 13 runs over 17 innings in his last three starts, blanked the Phils on seven singles, walked just one and fanned eight over seven innings as he evened his record at 9-9.
