JUPITER, Fla. — Less than 24 hours after Major League Baseball shuttered spring training camps and urged players to return home indefinitely, some Cardinals went back to work.
A larger group of players than the team initially expected remained in the Jupiter area with the intention of participating in informal workouts in the coming weeks, as baseball and the world brace for the ramifications of the global coronavirus pandemic. Matt Carpenter could be heard hitting in the batting cage Saturday, and other players, such as Harrison Bader, came by for some baseball activities on the first day after mandatory activities officially ceased.
