The Cardinals allowed the Blue Jays to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning as a result of some less-than stellar defense.
Toronto shortstop Ezequiel Carrera reached on an infield single to lead off the inning when first baseman Matt Adams couldn't knock down a ground ball to his left. The following batter, right fielder Jose Bautista, then singled to right field when things went awry.
Cardinals right fielder Stephen Piscotty fielded the Bautista hit cleanly, but as Carrera was trying to advance from first to third, Piscotty's throw hit Carrera and bounced into the Toronto dugout.
