St. Louis has had trouble scoring so far this season, but on Tuesday night the Cardinals scored a run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
Center fielder Dexter Fowler led off the frame with a ground-rule double down the right field line. Then, after Aledmys Diaz struck out looking, Fowler advanced to third when right fielder Stephen Piscotty flew out to center field.
The next batter, third baseman Jedd Gyorko, hit a sharp ground ball up the middle on the first pitch he saw from Marco Estrada. The single accounted for Gyorko's seventh RBI of the season.
