Cardinals get it right in the end, win 12th in a row over Reds

CINCINNATI • Cardinals manager Mike Matheny was fretting as to how he would get to the eighth inning with his bullpen Friday, what with lefthander Tyler Lyons going on the disabled list earlier in the day. Lyons often sees action against the Reds, who have three lefthanded thumpers in their first four hitters, but with Lyons out with a sprained left elbow, Matheny was looking for help elsewhere and apparently it wasn’t going to come from veteran lefthander Brett Cecil, who has been horrid lately.

But, relieving uneven starter Luke Weaver, lefthanded rookie Austin Gomber was OK, righthander Sam Tuivailala was good and righthanded rookie Jordan Hicks was overpowering.
