CHICAGO — With a run of strong performances from relievers and an ongoing lack of at-bats for every outfielder, the Cardinals opted to shift the breakdown of their roster to make room for veteran reliever Luke Gregerson.
Gregerson, a Chicago native, was brought back from the injured list Saturday morning and will be the eighth arm available in the bullpen as the Cardinals face the Cubs at Wrigley Field. As described in Saturday morning's Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals opted to send outfielder Tyler O'Neill back to Class AAA Memphis so he could get regular playing time.
Factoring into the decision for the Cardinals was how well Giovanny Gallegos has been pitching -- he has two holds on this road trip -- and how well Dexter Fowler is feeling after a bought with a virus.
