The variety and tenacity of the offense that the Cardinals have wanted to see peeked out of the fog Friday night to keep them in game, to bring them to the precipice of retaking the game, but ultimately an unforgiving month continued.
Better still wasn’t good enough to win.
The Cardinals played catchup for most of Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and fell shy, 5-4, at Busch Stadium. Nolan Arenado reached base five times, he and rookie Dylan Carlson both hit home runs, and there were several chances for the breakthrough hit to repair this broke-down stretch of games.
