Cardinals fight back to tie lowly Tigers but lose on Norris' wild pitch in ninth

Boyd struck out 11 and allowed just one hit over the first seven innings as the Tigers beat the Cardinals for the second successive night at Comerica Park. Paul DeJong broke up the shutout with an opposite-field homer in the eighth off Boyd. And Marcell Ozuna, with the Cardinals down to their last out, hit a two-run homer to left in the ninth off Shane Greene to tie the score.

But a two-base error by Cardinals first baseman Matt Carpenter allowed the potential winning run to reach base in the Detroit ninth. And the Tigers won it 4-3 when Bud Norris, not reliable for the third consecutive time as the closer, bounced a slider that became a wild pitch with the bases loaded as the Tigers won in their final at-bat for the second night in a row.
