JUPITER, Fla. • When Cardinals lefty Tim Cooney experienced an unsettling sensation in his shoulder earlier this spring, the club’s newly reorganized medical staff diagnosed what was wrong but also asked the question that has become their focus: Why?
Cooney went through a series of tests and from the data collected the club saw beyond treating the inflammation he had and into the precursors of trouble ahead.
The why gave the answer to how to avoid a possible injury.
“With every department, there’s a natural progression or evolution that takes place,” general manager John Mozeliak said.
