JUPITER, Fla. • While just north of here, the New York Mets and their young pitcher Jacob DeGrom have had a staring contest over the team's right to set his salary and the starter's sense he deserves more, the Cardinals have worked their formula and completed their deals without the angst.

The Cardinals finalized a contract with pitcher Michael Wacha and completed deals for all of the players on the 40-man roster with less than three years of experience. The Cardinals did not have to use their "renewal" right to complete the contracts, general manager John Mozeliak confirmed.
