With one of their offseason targets signed and another on deck with a deal in hand, the Cardinals continued their aggressive, recurring attempts to acquire All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado from Colorado.
The Cardinals and Rockies continued discussions Friday with an assortment of complexities that ranged from the salary relief the Cardinals would get to Arenado's no-trade clause, and opt-out right from his contract. Some parts of the trade will require approval from the commissioner's office.
A source aware of the Cardinals' discussions with Colorado said no deal was finalized "at this time."
The Athletic, citing sources, reported that the Cardinals were in agreement on a deal with the Rockies.
