WASHINGTON — A short drive from where he starred as Navy’s ace, Cardinals prospect Mitch Harris will have the opportunity to make history in the nation’s capital.
Harris, 29, will join the Cardinals on Tuesday at Nationals Park, general manager John Mozeliak confirmed Monday evening.
The team intends to place center fielder Peter Bourjos on three-day paternity leave to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. To take his spot on the roster, the Cardinals will add some depth to the bullpen and purchase Harris’ contract from Class AAA Memphis. Both moves will become official Tuesday.
